## Calculus Made Easy by Silvanus P. Thompson

Though it was written init is amazingly understandable. It is what comes after a few introductory chapters by Gardner that really made me smile: From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. But the book explains lot of things in simple and elegant way. Changing the size of the type does not increase the size of any mathematical notation.

This was a book that I skimmed through, rather than thoroughly digested, not least because much of each chapter consists of worked examples and exercises which I didn’t attempt.

It’s certainly not “rigorous” by a long shot, but it does what it sets out to do: This cuts to the bone and is well written. Although I still don’t understand calcuulus I really enjoyed reading this book. The choices for initial examples and exercises were sometimes more complex than they needed to be, bringing in complexities unrelated to what was being taught.

The author doesn’t seem tthompson have a consistent audience in mind. For some reason, the nook is incapable of forming the Greek epsilon. I really got a feel for how important it was for Thompson to remove the intimidation from calculus.

Yes, he modernized the terminology and that’s somewhat eaxy, but it comes at the price of new typos sillvanus to the edition. Hence I picked up this book.

Turns out I just hated how it was taught to me. I’ll be honest, I didn’t solve most of the problems that was not my intent I’m a software developer and have had my interests in Calculs for quite some time now. Best math book I’ve ever read.

Overall, it serves my intended purpose of refreshing myself and solid Good introduction book to the concepts of calculus. It would’ve made it the book better if it had a chapter on Limits as well.
