As a NY Times Bestseller its clear that the book is being read, but its more difficult to assess if the book has been successful at motivating readers to take action. Also gives great recommendations of other idea driven books for those interested in an overall change state here in this country.

The presentation of some of the data seemed a little disingenuous to me, for instance citing a data point of the African American community without clvenant context that might make it evident the problem is not limited to just the African American community.

Trivia About Covenant with Bla The big “we” makes me wonder where along that continuum the author has drawn the line. The audience are black people who are ignorant to the economy and dont want to help themselves and our people. Jan 20, Eric Searcy added it.

If you have heard some of this before, but only as conjecture, then The Covenant will make it factual by providing the statistical evidence. I really enjoyed the book because I enjoy statistics and things like this.

However i think, because im a teenager, that it would have been fun to read a chapter about teenage statistics in comparsion to other races in relation to sex, drugs, education and things like that. Tavis Smiley and others have done ckvenant great service to all by publishing this book.


Seeking more information from local gov. Nov 01, Sava Hecht rated it it was ok. I finished this a while ago. Its clear that African Americans in this country have an incredibly difficult climb fraught with disadvantages at all levels.

Race in my world view is a mushy attribute – more of a continuum between black and white and anything else disturbingly harkens back to the “one-drop rule”.

Six years’ worth of symposiums come together in this rich collection of essays that plot a course for African Americans, explaining how individuals and households can make changes that will immediately improve their circumstances in areas ranging from health and education to crime reduction and financial well-being.
