This was my first Mankell, and it is elegantly done, with a protagonist you don’t love or hate, he’s just a real guy.

I think this is one of the best detective novels for giving the message that there is really no satisfaction in solving the case sodetracked the victims are still dead and the damage done cannot be undone. Sidetracted is a phychological thriller that is both fast paced and riveting.
